NPO Acar was established in March 1986 by five young people as a group to support homosexuals, a group whose existence was not even recognized in Japan.At that time, AIDS was becoming an extremely serious health problem for homosexuals, but Japan had not yet taken any measures to prevent it.During these times, our association began our AIDS activities without much effort, and we were also ahead of the times in addressing the issue of homosexuality as a human rights issue.Now, 37 years later, our organization is working in the following 12 areas to improve issues related to HIV/AIDS, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
