Bank Indonesia (BI) has introduced a new payment method called QRIS Tap, which differs from the commonly used QRIS barcode scanning method. According to Santoso, Chairman of the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), QRIS with barcode scanning requires the use of a smartphone camera. In contrast, QRIS Tap utilizes NFC (Near Field Communication) technology available in smartphones.

“Previously, transactions required using the phone's camera, but now there’s no need to open the camera,” Santoso said at the Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI) at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday, August 2, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia.

By incorporating NFC technology, QRIS Tap makes payments easier, eliminating the need to scan a barcode.
According to observations by Infobanknews, the QRIS tap NFC feature is a combination of e-money and QRIS in a smartphone. To make a payment, users simply need to bring their smartphone, equipped with NFC technology, close to the payment reader.
Unlike the typical QRIS payment method that relies on barcodes, QRIS tap NFC does not require any barcode. This feature will be connected to digital banking or financial technology (fintech) applications on the user's smartphone.
The QRIS tap NFC payment method will be applicable for public transportation like TransJakarta, MRT, KAI Commuter Line, and more. It is also expected that its use will expand, targeting the general public, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Several switching companies, such as PT Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronis (Artajasa) and PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara (Jalin), have already launched this feature and partnered with various collaborators. Quote by Mohammad Adrianto Sukarso
